College of the Canyons: Program Highlight MESA

At College of the Canyons, The Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) Program serves to enrich the experience of students majoring in math, science and engineering. MESA supports students by providing a variety of services including academic advisement, discipline specific enrichment and community building opportunities. Our primary goal is to equip MESA students with the skills and attitudes necessary for their successful transfer to university.

The MESA program honored its 51 transferring students during the annual Transfer Celebration on Friday, May 19, 2023 gathering for the first time in the Takeda Science Center at the Canyon Country campus. All graduates achieved 3.0 or higher GPAs, and the class attained an all-time-high average GPA of 3.62. The students will transfer to some of the top universities in the world to complete their bachelor’s degree. Transfer universities include: Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, CSU Chico, CSU Humboldt, CSU Northridge, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, Seattle University, University of Hawaii, and USC.

One of the country's most innovative and successful programs, MESA, works with thousands of educationally disadvantaged students so they excel in math and science and graduate with math-based degrees. MESA works closely with industry partners and the University of California, California State University, the California Community Colleges, the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities and the State Department of Education. MESA is nationally recognized for its innovative academic development program.
